So, it's been 15 days of no fast-food and sugary sodas for me. And if you've been following along with all or part of the challenge since I posted about then it's been 13 days for you. How have you been doing? I've been doing GREAT with the fast-food. And just as I had predicted, it gets easier each day. After the first week or so you stop seeing the restaurants on every corner and you start planning ahead with snacks. It really does get easier. With the exception of when you are tired and don't feel like cooking, it's then that the temptation is awful. But be strong my friends because that will get easier for us too!!
Sodas are a different story. I haven't had any sugary sodas including aspartame and splenda sodas but it's still really hard. In my history with sodas I have yet to a single day when I didn't crave bubbles. Even after months of no sodas I still thought about and craved them everyday. It's so sad. So, my goal is to eventually to maybe have one or two natural sodas a week. But I'm not there yet. I've had a ton of natural sodas these 15 days. BUT, that's better than what I was doing before, so I'll take it. Baby steps ya'll!
So, now it's your turn...I'd love for you share with me in the comments or an email how you are doing - good or bad.

Have you tried La Croix or Seagram's sparkling water with a little natural fruit flavor? No sugar or sugar subs. I love them. :)
ReplyDeleteHey Jessica! Thanks for the recommendation. I've tried a few of them but they aren't sweet enough for my tastebuds. Maybe if I mixed them with some juice:)
DeleteYou are my inspiration! Food in general is hard for me! I've gone 4 years maybe more without chocolate. I don't crave it anymore and really I can't remember what it tastes like.
ReplyDeleteMarne
I'm glad...love you!
DeleteHave you ever heard of the SodaStream? I have one and that's one of the best ways I have broken the soda habit!!
ReplyDeleteI used to drink seltzer as well, but I too have quite the sweet tooth, and it doesn't usually satisfy it. I've recently found a fruit punch drink in small cartons (for kids :) at Trader Joes. The reduced calorie one has only 50 calories, and uses only filtered water and fruit juices. There seems to be no artificial flavors in it (from my reading :) and it's sweet, but not too much. I'm back on the dieting train full force, and cutting out excess sugars and calories. It's very hard, but I just went to an audition the other day, where they loved my voice, but I found out later, just couldn't use because of my size. Ouch. I know that is not the main reason I am dieting at all - it's health. But I have to be realistic about the creative medium I've chosen. (musical theatre). I'm ready to be healthier, and I know losing weight will aid in that process. I'm praying for you, and so proud of you for your choices, and for bravely sharing them on the blog! Stay the course, my friend.
ReplyDeleteI admit I had two sodas this week. But today is a new day and I have new confidence! I immediately felt the effects of the soda and it wasn't good... this is why I don't want to drink it! And it's my decision. (Ha. Just reminding myself). So thank you for the encouragement.
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree about fast food: once you stop the habit, you don't miss it. I have invested in kashi frozen dinners for lunch because lunch time is my real weakness. I realized that even though kashi seems expensive at $3.79 a box, it's still cheaper than the 8-10 a meal I was spending on fast food. It is slightly better for you and it's still high in sodium (which is why I crave fast food, other than it being fast). So, it's a good first step.
I appreciate your update and efforts! You're spurring us all on to become better versions of ourselves!
